Bisbee, AZ

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I had the opportunity to visit the town of Bisbee, AZ.  It was a huge copper mine and the town is built upon the hillside as the mine expanded through the years.  There are stairs everywhere in that town and every July 4th, you can watch their annual soap box derby as they race down the steep slopes through main street.  Since it’s decline as a mining town, it’s now more of a hippie enclave where the majority of residents are an artist of one form or another.  Art shops are a dime a dozen and just wandering through all the myriad of shops is a wonder to behold.

One in particular was quite fun to browse their gallery and I took as many pictures as I could as one day I will return and purchase a few somethings from them.  They have a website where you can purchase some of their small trinkets, but very few items from this gallery are actually on the site itself so I cannot just link them for you.  I highly recommend visiting the Metalmorphosis galleries if you are in the area.

St. Patrick’s church in Bisbee has stained glass looking windows that are actually painted glass created in Germany and shipped around South America to arrive at this church back in the late 1800’s.  The church is quite beautiful.

  1. Koth! Did you go through Tucson on your way to Bisbee? Bisbee’s a beautiful town. I’ve been down a few times for a really great stair run they have that takes you all around town, and they have musicians at all the staircases playing as you run, just an awesome event. Hope all is well.

  2. I drove in from the east, so only went through Tucson on my way out. A stair run? Yikes, that must be taxing to climb all those steps! I’m getting by, hope all is well with you.
